EFCC recovers N11.9m for Redeemed Christian Church of God

EFCC recovers N11.9m for Redeemed Christian Church of God

One of the regional Ministers of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Mark Barango, has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for being "an agent of transformation.

He said this while receiving a sum of N11, 984, 844, 11(Eleven Million, Nine Hundred and Eighty Four Thousand,  Eight Hundred and Forty Four Naira, Eleven Kobo only), recovered and returned to the church by the EFCC".

Mr. Ishaq Salihu, South- South Zonal Head of the EFCC, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State handed over the money to him. The money was stolen by a banker and the Account Officer of the church, Ameh Cyril Idakwoji,  in a web of fraudulent diversion and suppression of the finances of the church.

According to the EFCC, troubles came for Idakwoji when Access Bank Plc petitioned the EFCC about some missing funds in the accounts of one of its corporate customers in Port Harcourt. The customer, Jepthah International School, East- West Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, could not access N37,000,000( Thirty- Seven Million Naira only) in its account with the bank. The bank traced the scam to one of its staff, Idakwoji and named him the mastermind of the fraudulent dealings. Idakwoji doubled as the Account Officer of Jepthah International School and Redeemed Christian Church of God, Region 5, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He defrauded the RCCG by suppressing and diverting  cheques and cash meant for the Church to cover his shady deals in Jepthah International School. He was covering up by giving fake Statements of Accounts to both the school and the church. To execute his criminal schemes in RCCG, he forged the letter heads of the church's Region 5 and the signatures of the Pastor in charge of the Region. He also forged the signature of the church's accountant and attached same to the August 2017 Salary Schedule of Jepthah International school to the tune of ( N7, 129, 128. 78).
The Church denied giving instruction for the payment of the salary of the school. Investigations by the Commission uncovered all the criminal movements of the fund of the church by Idakwoji and a sum of N11, 987, 844.11 found to have been stolen have now been recovered and returned to the church.

It will be recalled that a sum of N36,000,000( Thirty Six Million Naira), recovered from Idakwoji,  was returned to the management of Jepthah International School by the EFCC in September.

While presenting the money to the church, Salihu emphasized the commitment of the EFCC to bursting any financial and economic scam, no matter how complex. He reiterated the zero- tolerance of the Commission for corrupt practices and warned criminal elements in the country to desist from fraudulent practices. " Crime and criminality are not limited to any group of people. They have no creed, no gender and no religion. The RCCG is a large church and we are pleased to have been able to recover the stolen money for the church", he said.

An appreciative Pastor Barango promised that the church will continue to pray for the continued success of the Commission.

'It's time to charge our youth to quit sleeping through life and taking just anything as they come' - Comedian AY

As the comedian shared via IG after his participation at the National Youth Summit in Enugu state. Read below.
My participation at the National Youth Summit in Enugu State has further rekindled the fire in me to Join the army that will build the hopes for our future. It's time to charge our youth to quit sleeping through life and taking just anything as they come. Let us allow our survival depend on our ability to stay awake, to create new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change. Let us all improve on ourselves by embracing the power of personal growth that will give birth to personal achievements. It is time to become job generators rather than remain in a generation of job seekers.

Rapper Cardi B covers the November 2017 'Hot Issue' of Rolling Stone magazine

Rapper Cardi B covers the November 2017
Can we all agree that 2017 is the year of Cardi B? The Bronx rapper landed the cover of Rolling Stone‘s “The Hot Issue.”
The cover story done by Brittany Spanos follows Cardi B's rise from stripper to starring on VH1’s Love & Hip-Hop: New York, her transition from tv star to becoming an artist and  making Billboard history landing her first No. 1 record on the Hot 100 with “Bodak Yellow.
Cardi B also opened up about her struggles trying to provide for her family, eventually dropping out of school and her relationship with now fiancé Offset. Excerpt from the story reads...
“It takes all of 10 seconds in Cardi B’s presence to be reminded of the sheer force and hilarity of her personality. Simply being Cardi B, at maximum volume, made her a star – first on Instagram, then on the VH1 reality show Love & Hip-Hop: New York – before she’d recorded any music at all, let alone knocked Taylor Swift from the top of the pop charts with the sly swagger of her single “Bodak Yellow.” She is the people’s diva – or “the strip-club Mariah Carey,” as she once rapped – unfiltered in a way the world often doesn’t allow female stars to be. In a culture reshaped by streaming and social media, where the kids, without much corporate nudging, get to decide who the stars are, Cardi B is what you get.

Hotel explosion in Somalia kills at least 23 people

Hotel explosion in Somalia kills at least 23 people
A suicide car bomb exploded outside a popular hotel in Mogadishu, capital of Somalia killing at least 23 people and wounding more than 30 others. According to reports, the explosion was the first of a series of three blasts.

A second explosion occurred near the former parliament where military personnel were stationed and a third happened when an attacker detonated a suicide vest close to the hotel. Around 30 people, including government officials, who were trapped inside the hotel were eventually freed after security forces worked for hours on Saturday evening to end the siege by al-Shabab extremists.

Captain Mohamed Hussein said three of the five attackers were killed and others hurled grenades and cut off the hotel’s electricity as night fell.  Police officer Ali Nur said: “Security forces have entered a small portion of the hotel building…The exchange of gunfire is hellish.”
He added that most of those killed were policemen who were stationed close to the hotel’s gate. A former lawmaker and a former government minister were also reported to have died.

The al-Shabab extremist group has claimed responsibility for the attack.  Abdiasis Abu Musab, the group’s military operations spokesman, said: “We targeted ministers and security officials who were inside the hotel. We are fighting inside.”

The attack in Somalia’s capital comes two weeks after more than 350 people were killed in a massive truck bombing on a busy Mogadishu street in the country’s worst-ever attack.  The extremist group al-Shabab often targets high-profile areas of Mogadishu but it did not comment on the attack earlier this month.
