2017:EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH SAMUEL CHINEDU A.K.A (SAMMY CHI)-NOLLYWOOD'S HOTTEST DIRECTOR
KAYSWORD- who is Samuel Chinedu a.k.a (Sammy Chi)?
Well emm,thank you very much for having me here today,am Samuel Chinedu a.k.a. (Sammy Chi). I'm a full time Film Maker,A Movie Director,A Producer also and oldtime Cinematograher.
KAYSWORD- Which State are you from?
Well, I'm a true Son of the soil, an Igbo man, from Anambra State,Nnewi Local Govement.
KAYSWORLD- What Inspired you to go into Movie making?
I have always have this fire burning inside of me right when i was a kid.I love to entertain People. As time goes by,i begin to have the intention to go into acting. I started as an actor,at a point i realize that my zeal was growing bigger behind the camera.i like watching movies when i was a kid,i have this in mind that one day i'm going to be a better movie star. Each day i wake up,i feel like i've not done the best,and that's what has been keeping me going.
KAYSWORD- Professionally when did you start,and how long have you been in Nollywood Industry?
Well i have been in this Field for about 8-9 years now.I started as a Production assistant,and camera assistant,from there i became a continuity,and at a point i started shooting some videos,after which i was advised to get into a Film School where i Study Cinematography and later i majored in Directing but i started Shooting Movies/musical videos first because Directing is not something you just rush into. I have shot couple of Movies as a Cinematographer,movies like -SECONDARY SCHOOL GIRLS, THOUGHT OF THE GODS, SACRIFICE OF VULTURE ,DANGEROUSE VULTURES, CHINELO THE SHY VIRGIN, DESPERATE SINGLES, ENEMY AMONG US- Whole lots of them after which i started as a Director.
KAYSWORD- It's been a while you've been on set, when do you intend to go back on location?
Presently we are working on a very big Script, cause after our last Job we choose to push things further,aiming up to a Cinema standard Movie. We have our writers working on a solid Script,the pre-production is on and my co-producers as well are putting heads together to see that we are finacially somewhere for the job.three weeks from now we should be on location,because our casting will be coming up in two weeks time and after the casting believe me location is the next option.
KAYSWORD- Tell us the names of the movies you've directed and produced so far?
Right now i have a soap going on air tittled -MY LIGHT. its showing on Africa magic [thats my latest].As for the Movie -NOTORIOUS- is out in the Market featured MAMA G,KINGSLEY WHITE and many others.Also coming Soon on African Magic,i have -THOUGHT OF THE GODS- produced by me -PRINCE OF SHALON, LIKE FATHER LIKE SON, MY LOVE AND I- Directed by me. I co-produced -CHINELO THE SHY VIRGIN- and other jobs
KAYSWORD- We learnt you are the CEO of Samfox Production and what is it all about?
Yes,i am by the grace of God.We run a full time Production pakage,film making,documentary.we shoot videos and we train artist. Samfox production will always get that out for you,so we are running a full production pakage. Sam-fox Production has it all under its roof
KAYSWORLD- What has been the challenges in the movie industry
Yes.we lack unity, everybody want to be there but nobody want to learn from other people mistakes. We need to come together as one. Without the Director the Producer is not working fine,without the Producer the production manager is not working fine,without the Director the D.O.P is not working fine and all these guids need to come together and understand that they are working to aim one thing. We also need to follow the rules,those that refuse to should get themselves something else to do. If you want to make a movie, use the right people,use AGN registered members,people who are well trained in film making not those that will make a movie and at the end of the day your film is bad and poor and if we continue like this, five years from now we will go down. Also,artistically our artist need to improve,in their sense of understanding about what they are doing,because some people don't even understand what they are acting,they just get the script and just read it like a novel and come to your set and deliver it to you like that. Its not all about the money,we need to make a name for the country and for the production itself. This fighting for power is getting us nowhere but dividing us the more. Lets stand as one,join heads together with God on our side,believe me we are going places.
KAYSWORLD- Do you have a role model in nollywood?
Yes. Pete Edochie. I love his delivery,his modulation in terms of acting, infact i love him,he is my role model and also Ifeanyi Onyeagbo, he is my role model directly,i love the way he interpret his story as a director.
KAYSWORLD- What advise do you have for your fans and those that lookup to you?
Well,i love you all that admire what i do,those that encourage me when they look at my works and those who are looking up to me,all i can say to you is don't give up.its not been easy but no matter how challenging never look back because when you have a vision,and set with a mission and with your serious determination believe to have a rightful realization.
